Energy Devices

Renuvion, radiofrequency and the honest truth about ‘non-surgical’ skin tightening.

What are energy devices?

Energy-based devices use heat — from radiofrequency, helium plasma (Renuvion), ultrasound (such as HIFU) or lasers — to tighten skin and stimulate collagen. Some are fully non-surgical (applied to the skin surface); others are minimally invasive, delivered under the skin through tiny incisions, sometimes during liposuction.

A realistic expectation

These technologies are heavily marketed, so honesty matters:

⚠ Important

Non-surgical energy devices produce modest tightening at best and cannot reproduce the result of a facelift. They may suit younger patients with mild laxity, or as a complement to surgery, but claims of a ‘non-surgical facelift’ routinely overstate what they can achieve. If you have established jowling or neck laxity, surgery is what works.

Where they fit

Used sensibly, energy devices have a role: improving skin quality, treating mild early laxity, or tightening skin during neck liposuction in selected patients. They are best understood as part of a spectrum, not a replacement for a lift.
