Sleeping & Activity

Positioning, exercise and what to avoid in early recovery.

Sleeping position

Sleep with your head elevated (extra pillows or a recliner) for the first week or two to reduce swelling, and avoid sleeping on your side or face while tissues heal. Your surgeon will give specific guidance.

Returning to activity

Light walking is encouraged early to support circulation. Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting and anything that raises blood pressure sharply for several weeks, as this increases bleeding and swelling risk. Most people resume normal exercise around four to six weeks, guided by their surgeon.
