What is extended smas facelift?
The extended SMAS facelift takes the standard SMAS technique further: the surgeon dissects the SMAS over a larger area, extending toward the cheek and midface before repositioning it. This releases more of the tissue and allows a stronger lift of the cheek and jawline than a standard SMAS lift, while still handling skin and SMAS as separate layers.
It sits between the standard SMAS and the deep plane in terms of how much the midface is mobilised, and is a versatile, widely used technique.
Who is it best for?
It suits patients with moderate to significant jowling and midface descent who want more correction than a standard SMAS lift offers. As with all sub-SMAS work, surgeon experience is key because the dissection approaches the facial nerve branches.
