Thread Lift (Compared)

A popular non-surgical option — here is an honest account of what a thread lift can achieve, and where only surgery will do.

What is a thread lift?

A thread lift is a non-surgical procedure in which dissolvable sutures with tiny barbs or cones are inserted under the skin and used to lift sagging tissue slightly. It is done under local anaesthetic with little downtime, and the threads dissolve over months, stimulating some collagen as they do.

What it can and cannot do

A thread lift can give a subtle lift to mild early jowling or brow descent, and appeals to people wanting minimal downtime. However, it is important to be realistic:

⚠ Important

A thread lift is not a substitute for a facelift. The lift it produces is modest and temporary — typically lasting around 12–18 months — and it cannot address significant jowling, neck laxity or volume loss. For genuine, lasting correction, surgery is required.

Who might consider one?

Threads may suit younger patients with very mild laxity who want a temporary, subtle effect and accept it will not last. Anyone with established jowling or a heavy neck will be disappointed and is usually better advised to consider a mini or full facelift, or to wait until surgery is the right step.
